SF Gate: S.F. spends $1.5 million renovating two public restrooms

Last week, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department unveiled two newly refurbished freestanding public restrooms near Ocean Beach. With fresh paint, new roofs and landscaping, the sparkling Classical Revival buildings dating back to the 1930s were a welcome sight to park- and beach-goers.

The price tag on the projects at the intersection of Judah Street and the Great Highway and another at Taraval Street and the Great Highway was $1.5 million. This might seem high—all of that money to spruce up a buildings that house toilets? But when you consider that these are historic buildings that have lasted 85 years and will easily endure another century the cost seems more reasonable.
